Expanding our network of care

On May 1, 2018, St. Luke’s Hospital acquired Des Peres Hospital, a 143-bed hospital that has served the community for more than 40 years, from Tenet Healthcare. The acquisition of St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital brought together two hospitals, creating an even stronger independent healthcare network. More importantly, it provides an opportunity for St. Luke’s to have a broader positive impact on improving the quality of life for patients and the community. The acquisition also included the Des Peres Medical Office Building and Tenet-owned physician practices in St. Louis.

“St. Luke’s is the St. Louis area’s only independent healthcare provider, and we are confident that welcoming St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital into our family is a win for everyone,” said Christine M. Candio, RN, FACHE, St. Luke’s president and chief executive officer, of the acquisition. “Patients will have uninterrupted access to high quality care, and our independent healthcare network will grow stronger and have the opportunity to have a broader positive impact on the community as both hospitals and our talented team members build on each other’s strengths.”

To engage the community, St. Luke’s invited the community members to two “Coffee with Chris” meetings to focus on what the acquisition means for residents.

Opening of Selke Healthcare Center expands access to primary and specialty care

In October 2017, St. Luke’s opened the Selke Healthcare Center at the Bond County Health Department building in Greenville, Illinois. The center was dedicated in honor of Kenneth Selke, MD, a longtime St. Luke’s cardiologist, for his lifelong commitment to excellence in healthcare. As an outpatient healthcare center, it continues Dr. Selke’s legacy of caring for patients throughout Bond and Fayette Counties, offering primary care. It also provides convenient access for Bond County residents to specialty services and physicians of St. Luke’s, including nephrology and cardiac testing, diagnostics and treatment. Future plans will expand services to include additional specialists.
